Manzanar Committee Member Cory Shiozaki Guests On Radio Show

Manzanar Committee members Cory Shiozaki and Richard Imamura had a booth and exhibit at the Fred Hall Fishing Tackle, Boat and Travel Show at the Long Beach Convention Center, March 4-9, 2009, to publicize their “Barbed Wire to Barbed Hooks” project on former Manzanar internees who fished for trout in the nearby creeks. The Manzanar Committee also took advantage of the opportunity to publicize the upcoming 40th Manzanar Pilgrimage, scheduled for April 25, 2009, and to educate attendees about the unjust imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

Shiozaki was the in-studio guest on Sportsfishing Saturday, hosted by Phil Friedman, which airs on KLAC-AM 570 in Los Angeles from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM on Saturday mornings.

  1. Kate Sullivan Says:

The father of my college room-mate is named Frank Ono. He told stories of buying a gun through Sears to fend off bears when he went fishing at Manzanar. I have loved all of his stories. Now told after decades of healing, it is easier to see some fun. I’m sure at the time, it was horrible. My room-mate, Janice Ono, connected me to this web site and I have really enjoyed the history and the stories of the people who lived at Manzanar. It makes this part of America’s history vivid.
