Program On Manzanar Internees From Bainbridge Island Scheduled For May 3

The following is an announcement from the National Park Service.


INDEPENDENCE, CA — Mary Woodward, author of In Defense Of Our Neighbors: The Walt And Milly Woodward Story, will be joined by former Manzanar internees Kay Sakai Nakao, Lilly Kodama and Frank Kitamoto, all from Bainbridge Island in Washington, at a special program and book signing at the Manzanar National Historic Site on Sunday, May 3, 2009 beginning at 1:00 PM PDT.

Walt and Milly Woodward were the editors of the Bainbridge Island Review newspaper and often wrote articles that defended Japanese Americans on Bainbridge Island, in Washington during World War II.

Japanese Americans living on Bainbridge Island were among the first to be imprisoned at Manzanar. Mary Woodward’s book shares her parents’ story and also tells the larger story of the Bainbridge Island community. Read more of this post
