As you may know, students from four Southern California universities are the primary organizers of the Manzanar At Dusk program—the Nikkei Student Unions at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, California State University, Long Beach, the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of California, San Diego.

Back in 1997, when the event was first held, and was originally known as Manzanar After Dark, students from the EducationInAction program at City College of San Francisco helped organize the event and contributed greatly to it, as participants, for several years.

As the event grew in size, it eventually wound up at Lone Pine High School in 2008, but for various reasons, students were no longer involved in organizing the program. That changed in 2011, when college students returned to the forefront, re-taking ownership of the program, and that has continued since that time.

This year’s organizing group has produced a video about why you should join us for the 2017 Manzanar At Dusk program. Why is it important to come to Manzanar and to the Manzanar At Dusk program? What is it all about?

We hope you’ll watch, learn and then join us on Saturday, April 29, at 5:00 PM at Lone Pine High School (yes, the same evening as the 48th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage, held earlier in the day).
